Thailand must speed up the vaccination process to 70 percent of the population before the new variants of Covid-19 Coronavirus will become the new outbreak in the country, Thai neurologist Thiravat Hemachudha suggested.
Dr. Thiravat, head of the Center for Emerging Disease Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, stated online today, June 7th, that the first minute a new variant was found in the community, not in state quarantine, are always “untraceable” and “uncontrollable” as it was spreading faster than original variants, such as the first detection in Lak Si cluster.
His statement read: “B.1.351 strain of Covid-19 found in the southern provinces was also the same, showing that the strain must have been quickly spread in that area. Therefore, the Thai government needs to speed up the inoculation as soon as possible and cover the injection to as many people as possible.
“The process should be more than 70 percent within 2 months as there would be new strains that increasingly adapt to human bodies. The new strains may have a high tolerance towards the current vaccines, likely causing those vaccinated to be infected in the future.”
